After extensive debate amongst the expert public and in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, the Act Amending the Companies Act (Zakon o gospodarskih družbah, ZGD-1I) was adopted. The amendment entered into force on 8 August 2015. Some provisions of the amendment – in particular provisions regarding books of account and annual reports (Chapter 8 of Part I of ZGD-1I) – will be effective from 1 January 2016.

Recently, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia forwarded the Act Amending the Prevention of the Restriction of Competition Act (Zakon o preprečevanju omejevanja konkurence, ZPOmK-1) to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. This amendment provides for the annulment of the Protection of Competition Act (Zakon o varstvu konkurence, ZVK), the transfer of the regulation of unfair competition from the ZVK to the ZPOmK-1, and the elimination of protection by the administrative and inspection authorities.

On 20 May 2015, the European Parliament adopted amendments to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1346/2000 of 29 May 2000 on insolvency proceedings (OJEC, L 160/1, 30.6.2000) and established new regulations for cross-border insolvency proceedings.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia (hereinafter: the Supreme Court) has recently adopted a position on some key issues relating to the payment of overtime and the irregular distribution of working time. This is a subject that has for long been a topic of debate amongst the professional and lay public.

On 1 September 2015, the recently adopted Employment, Self-employment and Work of Aliens Act (Zakon o zaposlovanju, samozaposlovanju in delu tujcev; ZZSDT) will come into effect. It will eliminate the last remaining obstacles to the implementation of the institute of a joint permit for residence and work.
