The Public Procurement Act (ZJN-3), which transposes into Slovenian legislation the European Directive (2014/24/EU) on public procurement, dated 26 February 2014, was adopted at the end of 2015. The ZJN-3 provides for the simplification of public procurement procedures, aims at more economical public expenditure, and introduces several other novelties.

In relation to payment for work performed from 1 January 2016 onwards, employers need to take into consideration the new definition of the minimum wage. The minimum wage represents a monthly salary for work performed on a full time basis, whereby the allowances for night work and for Sunday and holiday work are no longer included in the amount of the minimum wage.

On 1 January 2016 a new Intervention Measure for the Labour Market Act (Zakon o interventnem ukrepu na področju trga dela; ZIUPTD) came into force, providing benefits for employers who hire unemployed persons older than 55 years of age.

On 15 December 2015 the National Assembly enacted amendments to the Fiscal Balance Act (ZUJF) that determine a different threshold between the second Personal Income Tax (PIT) bracket and the third PIT bracket for fiscal years 2016 and 2017.

In a recent judgment (No. III Ips 40/2014, dated 28 October 2015), the Slovene Supreme Court ruled that the notice period in the event of judicial termination of a lease agreement for office space starts to run from the service of the termination on the contracting party.

At the end of November 2015, Volkswagen began to implement the first measures to eliminate the errors in Volkswagen engines revealed by the Dieselgate Affair. Official statements applicable to the European Union regarding the reparation of 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines have been issued by the Volkswagen Group, which should be put into effect by the end of 2016.
