Beefed-up Criminal Code

The National Assembly adopted an amendment (»KZ-1E«) to the Slovenian Criminal Code (Kazenski zakonik; »KZ-1«) which entered into force on 2 July 2017. KZ 1E introduces changes in the most important areas of social life, especially with respect to the violation of fundamental rights of employees, defrauding creditors, abuse of position or trust in business, abuse of office or official duties and terrorism.

Hospitality and tourism industry agree on higher holiday pay for 2017

Social partners of the hospitality and tourism industry concluded an Annex to the Collective agreement for hospitality and tourism (Aneks h Kolektivni pogodbi dejavnosti gostinstva in turizma Slovenije; »KPGT«) under which they raised the amount of the holiday pay for 2017.

Changes in the labour market on the horizon

After more than half a year of negotiations between the social partners, the Slovenian Government has finally sent the amendment to the Labour Inspection Act (Zakon o inšpekciji dela; »ZID«) and the amendment to the Labour Market Regulation Act (Zakon o urejanju trga dela; »ZUTD«) to Parliament. Both amendments are being debated in a fast-track procedure.

How to let holiday homes in Slovenia?

During the tourist season, the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (»FURS«) has announced that it will step-up monitoring of individuals advertising or letting properties for tourism purposes. All individuals letting properties on a short-term lease must be duly registered in order to avoid a fine for undeclared work.

Will Microsoft have to hand over your data to the US Government?

In 2016, the US appellate court in New York issued a judgement in which it decided that Microsoft does not have to hand over to the US Government users' personal data stored on servers in countries outside the US. It now seems possible that the matter will be also the subject of a review by the US Supreme Court.
